Inclusively’s latest research compliments their earlier data finding that nearly half of employees fear requesting support or accommodations to do their job
ST. LOUIS, MO – January 14, 2024 – Inclusively, the leading technology platform providing companies with a universal approach to supporting employee needs around workplace benefits, resources and accommodations, today launched new research, The State of Workforce Planning: The Disclosure Gap Is Real.
The survey polled nearly 600 part- and full-time employees on Inclusively’s Hire platform, revealing that more than half identify as having a disability, yet a significant number still choose not to disclose. Additionally, many report that their employers are not meeting their needs nor providing necessary accommodations. These findings highlight the urgent need for organizations to better understand and address the specific needs of their workforce as diversity and inclusion needs grow.
“Our research reveals gaps in accommodations among a predominantly Gen Z and Millennial workforce. These younger generations are bringing new expectations to the workplace—emphasizing flexibility, support, and a work environment where they can truly show up as their best selves,” said Charlotte Dales, CEO and Co-founder at Inclusively. “As these generations continue to shape the workforce, companies must adapt their strategies to ensure they remain competitive and able to retain top talent.”
Key takeaways from the survey include:
- Employees aren’t disclosing their needs. More than half identify as having a disability and refrain from disclosing to their employer (57%). Top reasons include:
- They don’t know what could help
- There’s fear of stigma and bias
- Afraid of being treated differently
- Unsure of the request process
- They don’t know what support is available. Nearly half (47%) of employees lack confidence in understanding their needs for success due to unawareness of resources (36%), fear of career impact (28%), or the intimidating accommodations process (18%).
- Retention is on the line. Over half (54%) of employees do not feel their employers are meeting their needs, and 41% are ready to quit due to poor workplace experiences.
Employers need to practice what they preach. Only 32% of employees say that the external communications of their employer aligns with their lived experience.
“We’re aiming to lead the way in providing access to data that highlights what candidates and employees need to succeed in their roles through our platform,” continued Dales. “As we head into 2025, we’re excited to deliver candid, actionable insights to companies on a quarterly basis, helping them adapt to the evolving workforce.”
